Kona Library Book Club
KONA LIBRARY BOOK CLUB
We meet on the third Tuesday of every month (unless the library is closed for a holiday)
at 11 AM on the lanai of the Kailua-Kona Public Library. Members make the selections
for each year by submitting titles of books they would enjoy reading, then voting for the
books they want to read and discuss. The books that receive the most votes are
selected. They run the gamut, including fiction, non-fiction, classics, mysteries, history,
memoirs, biographies, historical novels, and science.
Members facilitate the monthly discussions. We have had a year of lively interchange.
I am pleased to report that our attendance this year has reached a new high! We have been having at least
20 members attend each meeting.
We have light refreshments at our meetings and some of the edible delights
reflect the food of a country covered in a book. These are prepared by some of our
more inventive members!
Annually, we invite a local author to meet with us. We always have an extra large
group attend and a lively discussion, including questions and answers with the local
author. Mia King will participate in March, 2010.
Here is the list of books for 2010:
January The Book Thief by Markus Zusak
February The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society
by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows
March Sweet Life by Mia King, Guest Author
April Olive Kitteridge by Elizabeth Strout
May The Lost Dog by Michelle de Krester
June Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet by Jamie Ford
July Peony in Love by Lisa See
August NO MEETING
September Passage by Connie Willis
October Infidel by Ayaan Hirsi Ali
November Inherent Vice by Thomas Pynchon
December Molokai by Alan Brennert
Thanks to all of you who have attended our monthly sessions and have made
these meetings so pleasant and interesting. It is very exciting and we urge those of you,
who have never attended, to join us.
